External egg quality is an imperative concern for the global egg production sector as it directly affects consumers’ acceptability and the egg production economy. External egg quality traits comprised egg weight, shell weight, shell thickness, egg volume, shape index, shell breaking strength, egg length, and egg surface area. Many factors affect external as well as internal egg quality parameters. This review paper thus focuses on the non-genetic factors that influence the external egg quality traits in chickens. This review mainly aims to address and improve the external egg quality ensuring good quality eggs. Different journals were searched and studied on related topics before starting the review. The journals were selected from different parts of the world randomly visualizing the overall condition of poultry eggs and their external egg quality characteristics. Here, non-genetic factors enclosed are nutritional factors such as calcium, phosphorus, and vitamins; housing system, stress, age, geographical factors, and pathological factors, are regarded as standard measurement standards; different factors influence the external egg quality in different ways. Knowledge of various aspects that influence external egg quality characteristics is paramount for producing eggs with greatly improved quality, thus research should be conducted to improve such characteristics.
